Friday, June 16:    3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, June 17:    10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Sunday, June 18:    10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m

The Northville Art House shines a spotlight on the imagination, art, talent and cultural diversity of artists throughout the region when the annual Arts and Acts Festival returns for the sixth consecutive year June 16-18 in historic downtown Northville. The Festival includes the 29th annual juried fine art show Art in the Sun, featuring over 70 talented artists;  the Sandbox Play Festival produced by Tipping Point Theatre; theShort on Words Literary Contest; musical entertainment featuring some of metro Detroit’s top musicians; Children’s Activities; the Northville Art House Chalk Festival; our new Young Artist Juried Art Fair; and a large variety of festival food and drink.

Northville’s annual “Arts and Acts Festival” is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Northville Art House.  It is one of the biggest and definitely one of the most diverse summer festivals in metro Detroit. With the exception of the tickets for the Play and Chalk Festivals which are a nominal fee, Arts and Acts is free.  The Art House makes its money through sponsorships and artist booth fees.  Yet a well-attended event is key to our mission:  not only are we bringing the arts to more people, we are encouraging the growth of the Festival, and thus the Art House, in the future.

Cornerstone Landmark of a Public Awareness Campaign Dedicated to Children’s Dental Health - Join us!

There are plenty of Michigan-made molars available – just like the ones in the Acci-DENTAL Masterpiece. We encourage anyone with an artistic flair to join us by creating their own Acci-DENTAL Masterpiece. It’s easy to do! Contact Preservation Dental to pick up a tooth, donate money, paint the tooth and enter it in a juried public art exhibit.

The suggested donation for a Michigan-made molar is $20. If you are not interested in the art exhibit, but would like a tooth – we suggest $10. If you just want to donate to the cause – you decide the amount. A portion of the proceeds will go to the University of Detroit Mercy (UDM) Dental School Community Outreach Program. They have a mobile dental clinic van that reaches out to children who cannot get to the dentist. UDM brings the dentist to them!

Children’s Christmas Workshop
In the New School Church at Mill Race Village

Children in grades 1-6 are invited to participate in the opportunity to make seven old-fashioned, hand-made gifts for the special people on their Christmas list. The intent of the workshop is to surprise family members with the gifts that the children have worked on and made themselves. So parents are not permitted in the New School Church while the children are making their gifts, and are asked not to pry or peek at what the kids are making.

There will be a morning session from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and an afternoon session from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., accommodating 150 children total. Enrollment is $20 per child, payable by cash or check made out to the Northville Historical Society.

REGISTRATION: Due to possible building overcrowding our registration policy has changed. Registration will be November 11th at 218 W. Dunlap in Northville. During last year’s registration, both sessions filled in 90 minutes.

Christmas In The Village

  • Mill Race Historical Village

‘Twas thirty-six days before Christmas, our Village was quiet as a mouse.
But, delighted visitors were stirring in our Open House!
Everyone gathered at the Cady Inn, which stood near
In hopes that Father Christmas soon would be here!

Volunteers were busy in every venue
As they diligently planned and toiled on a festive review.
Weavers Cottage shone bright as Guild members performed all over the place
Weaving, knitting, spinning… and don’t forget bobbin lace!

Mark Radeke Skola Choir and Northville Student Strings Orchestra proudly
Gathered at the New School Church to play a few numbers.
While local Girl Scout carolers entertained arriving new-comers.
Smithy demonstrators performed their craft over a fiery hot forge re-creation.
While Basket Guild demonstrators gave cause for serious anticipation.

Jarod Thompson’s angelic mandolin performance couldn’t be better
Beautiful music created truly does matter!
Decorators galore were buzzing about
To welcome visitors to our halls all decked out.

The JM MEAD store is well stocked and quite festive indeed
Stop on by and come see what you’ll need.
Visit the Cady Inn for a scrumptious cream tea
This sweet extra, for a mere small fee.

With the exception of a small per person charge for the tea, this event is free and open to the public.
