Street Improvements

Construction on S. Wing Street (Cady Street to 7-Mile Road)

Beginning this Saturday (September 24th) the City of Northville will begin a water main and street improvement project on S. Wing Street.  This project will take approximately six weeks to complete, and involves water main replacement, removing and replacing damaged concrete curb, pavement removal and replacement, and spot repair of city sidewalk.

Water Main Replacement:

We anticipate it will take the better part of a week to place new 8” water main down this segment of road.  Once the new water main has been placed and is tested, it will be connected to the City water system.  Following these connections, each individual water service to a house will be transferred over from the old line to the new line and the old line will be abandoned.  Better fire protection in this area of the City will result from this improvement.

Contractor and Engineer:

A construction contract for this work was awarded by City Council to Nagle Paving Company of Novi, Michigan. Zeimet Wosniak and Associates, a local engineering firm, was selected to perform all necessary inspection, and construction management for the City on this project.

Project Cost:

The City’s Water and Sewer fund will cover the cost of the water main upgrades and the City’s Major Street Fund will provide the revenue to fund the road improvement portion of the project.  No special assessment charges will be made against property owners on S. Wing Street for this work.

Safety:

Safety is a very important aspect of this project.  It would be best if you advise your customers to avoid this roadway for the next six weeks.  However, if they cannot, we hope everyone will respect all signs and construction closures/zones, and please drive through this area at a safe speed.  Remember traffic fines in construction zones are doubled, so everyone needs to follow all construction signage.

A quality new roadway on the southwest side of Downtown Northville will soon be a reality.   We understand that your customers and your business may be inconvenienced by this construction project, but by working together and keeping a positive attitude, we can achieve a lasting improvement to our community.   We truly appreciate your cooperation in these efforts, and we would like to thank you in advance for your patience and support.
